Colorado: woman faces 12 years in prison on charges of killing couple on Harley; she told cops she was boozing and smoking dope

Cortez woman suspected of killing two people while drunken driving was charged Friday in 6th Judicial District Court with two counts of vehicular homicide.
Stacie Pierce-Green, 40, faces up to 12 years in prison if convicted on either of the two counts.
She appeared Friday in court wearing shackles and a jail-issued jumpsuit. She is being held in La Plata County Jail without bail.
Pierce-Green is suspected of sideswiping an oncoming motorcycle and killing two riders – Frank Steward, 66, and Jessica Steward, 65, of Tahoe Vista, Calif.
The crash occurred about 4:45 p.m. May 22, a few miles west of Hesperus on U.S. Highway 160. …MORE

California: ride with a drunk driver – buy a ticket to your own funeral…Jonathan Cuevas dead after rollover, DUI manslaughter charges pending against driver

A 20-year-old passenger died early Saturday, June 9, in a car accident that injured the 18-year-old driver, police said.
Jonathan Cuevas of Riverside died in the 2:05 a.m. accident, coroner’s officials reported. He was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected, the coroner’s office said.
A preliminary investigation showed that the driver was under the influence of alcohol, police said. The driver was in serious condition at Riverside Community Hospital. …MORE

Georgia: stone drunk on Stone Mountain, veteran DUI driver kills one daughter, critically injures another while on booze cruise

ATLANTA -Corliss Johnson was laid to rest Saturday. Police say she died when her intoxicated father wrecked his car on Georgia Highway 78.
The family’s pastor talked Saturday about how the Johnsons are coping with the tragedy. He described the 15-year-old girl as smart, very funny and destined for leadership.
While the family lays one of the daughters to rest, they pray for another’s recovery and try to cope with a member of their family being charged in the crash that changed their lives

Illinois: South Suburban DUI arrests crowd court dockets but make streets safer

May 28:
Frank Mares, 57, of the 10100 block of Alice Court in Oak Lawn, was charged with driving under the influence. He was driving a motorcycle down Ridgeland Avenue when he was stopped for speeding at 1:46 a.m., police said.

May 26: Colette Barajas, 20, of the 7700 block of Oak Ridge Court, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and possession of drug equipment. She was stopped at 2:20 a.m. and failed field sobriety tests, police said.

June 2: Dennis Stampanato, 55, of the 15200 block of South Rob Roy Drive in Oak Forest, was charged with driving under the influence and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. At 6:46 p.m. Stampanato’s car hit another vehicle that was slowing down for a red traffic light on Route 83 and Ridgeland Avenue, police said. During the crash investigation police said officers noticed that he showed signs of impairment and conducted field sobriety tests, which he failed.    ….MORE
