Both officers were transported to a local hospital with non life-threatening injuries. The subject driver of the initial traffic stop, John B. St. Pierre, 44, of Vienna, was charged with DWI. Escobari, 23, of Sterling, was also charged with DWI. Neither arrestee required medical attention.

The crash occurred at approximately 4:21 a.m. this morning on I-264 eastbound at Rosemont Road in Virginia Beach. Investigation reveals that the Trooper was in the safety work zone when he was struck in the rear by a 2005 Subaru station wagon.

The driver (single occupant) of the 2002 Hyundai Accent, Lori B. Guess, 54, of Woodford, Va., died at the scene. She was not wearing a seatbelt.

In sentencing Lail to 20 years in prison with nine years suspended, the maximum allowed by law in this case, the Arlington County judge called Lail’s actions “an appalling demonstration of arrogance,” adding “she’s stunned it took this long for something to happen to someone” and “an absolute shame.”
