Rhode Island: Wrong way driver Aleksandro Mihali sent him, his passenger and two others he hit head-on to hospitals; charged with three counts of DUI

The investigation showed that Mihali was traveling south in the northbound lanes of Route 146 as he entered Rhode Island from Massachusetts, Moynihan said. While traveling in the wrong direction in the high-speed lane, his car, a 1987 Cadillac, collided head-on with a Honda Accord approximately 800 feet south of the state line.

During the investigation, police learned that Beattie was allegedly under the influence of marijuana and cocaine at the time of the crash, Fleming said. He also allegedly had child pornography on his cell phone.

Diaz displayed obvious signs of impairment at the scene. Troopers placed him in custody and transported him to the Lincoln Woods Barracks where he refused a breathalyzer test. In coordination with the Attorney General’s Office, a court authorized search warrant was prepared by troopers and signed by the Honorable Judge Stephen M. Isherwood. Mr. Diaz was transported to Rhode Island Hospital where blood samples were drawn. Testing of the collected blood samples will be conducted by the Rhode Island Department of Health.
