Louisiana: State Police charge Jason DeJean with OWI homicide as toxicology report looms; killed bicyclist Bernard Jones

Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2008 Chevrolet Pick-Up, driven by 34 year-old Jason Dejean of Belle Chasse, LA, was traveling north on LA 428 straddling the left and center turn lanes. A bicyclist was traveling south in the center turn lane and was impacted by the Chevrolet. The bicyclist was ejected and died on the scene; the bicyclist’s identity is being withheld pending notification to the family.

Louisiana: State Troopers charged Corey J. Newton with DWI hit and run death of Brittany L. Harris in St. James Parish crash

The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as 24 year old Corey J. Newton of Gramercy was driving a 2008 Nissan Altima eastbound on LA Hwy 3125 approaching LA Hwy 3213. At the same time, Harris was driving a 2007 Dodge Charger northbound on LA Hwy 3213 approaching LA Hwy 3125. As both vehicles approached the traffic light controlled intersection, Newton entered the intersection on a red light. As a result the Nissan struck the Dodge on the driver’s side, causing the Dodge to leave the roadway and strike a utility pole.

Louisiana: Sheri McElveen killed toddler while driving drunk now convicted again of DWI

The Advocate reports that Sheri McElveen has been convicted of DWI a 2nd time in Baton Rouge stemming from an arrest in 2012.

You might remember McElveen from 2002 when she was convicted of running over and killing a toddler who was being pushed in a stroller on College Drive.

Around 2;07 a.m. on January 11, Tampa FHP Troopers were investigating a traffic crash along the SR-618 eastbound travel lanes on the lower deck at the 11 Milepost. The roadway was closed for the crash investigation and the Tampa Police Department was on-scene assisting with the roadway closure.

Meanwhile, 24-year-old Carrington Carlyle Cox was driving on the Expressway and failed to exit and proceeded to go around the road closure
