The investigation determined the driver, Daniel Fritch, age 46 of Lake Elsinore, was driving along Lakeshore Drive, when he lost control of his vehicle. His vehicle struck a guard rail, rolled down an embankment and came to rest on its wheels. Fritch and a female adult passenger were transported to a local hospital where they were being treated for apparent non-life-threatening injuries

Ashleigh Spofford of Ladson was a passenger on the motorcycle and died in the crash according to the Charleston County Coroner’s Office.

Further investigation led Troopers to suspect that Rockinger was operating under the influence of alcohol. After completion of the Standard Field Sobriety Tests, Rockinger was taken into custody for suspicion of DUI. Rockinger provided a roadside sample of breath which indicated that his BAC was .159 %.

Austen Goodrich, who was 17 at the time of the crash, was speeding and intoxicated before crashing a 2005 Dodge Dakota just before 9 p.m., authorities said.

That night, Couch barreled down the road at approximately 70 miles an hour when he lost control of the truck, swerved into a ditch and plowed into a group of people who were helping a stranded motorist on the side of the road, killing four of them instantly, authorities said.
