Oregon: crackup on Interstate 5 reveals pounds of pot littered on highway

Oregon State Police (OSP) is continuing the investigation after finding several pounds of marijuana at the scene of Friday morning’s injury traffic crash on Interstate 5 south of Eugene.

On May 30, 2014 at approximately 4:50 a.m., OSP troopers, local fire personnel and ODOT responded to a scene of an injury traffic crash involving a sport utility vehicle and commercial truck blocking the northbound lanes of Interstate 5 near milepost 190. Upon arrival they found a Jeep Cherokee on its top and marijuana spilled onto the roadway and inside the overturned Jeep.

According to the Anne Arundel County Police Department, on May 20, 2014, at approximately 12:35 a.m., officers from the Southern District responded to the area of Central Avenue near Loch Haven Road in Edgewater for a reported overturned single vehicle crash. Charges of DUI for the driver await her release from a hospital.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the Toyota Camry was traveling eastbound on Central Avenue near Loch Haven Road when the 18-year-old female driver lost control of the vehicle, causing the vehicle to skid, rotate 180 degrees into a ditch and overturn onto its roof.

The driver, identified as Sienna Lee Brandhorst, 18, of Edgewater, Maryland

Alvin Henson was released from the hospital and was immediately taken into custody. He has been booked into the Cache County Jail, and his charges include DUI (2nd degree felony), driving on alcohol restriction (B misdemeanor), and failure to install an interlock device (B misdemeanor). Mr. Henson has prior DUI arrests in his history.

The driver, whose vehicle collided with the taxi, killing Laura Anne LaPlante, of Hancock, N.H., and injuring himself and two others, was charged in connection with the crash Saturday night.

Erik Johnson, 23, of the 3500 block of North Janssen Avenue, is due in court Sunday. He was charged with reckless homicide and driving under the influence.
