Alaska: State Police prove that they have defeated problem of drunk drivers on road; cite man on non-motorized rubber raft for DUI

by admin ·

Here they are: the biggest morons in American law enforcement!
From JonathanTurley.org
William Modene, 32, has reason to be confused. Modene was floating down Chena River when he was pulled over by Alaskan State Troopers on suspicion of Driving Under The Influence (DUI). He was seen drinking alcoholic drinks — not a practice unknown to many rivers. He blew a 0.313 (four times the legal limit) and was charged even though his vehicle was an inflatable raft.
The state law applies not just to motor vehicles and airplanes but “water craft.”
At 0.313, Modene’s breath-alcohol content was almost four times the legal limit for operating a vehicle, 0.08.
Modene was arrested without incident and was cooperative with troopers, trooper spokeswoman Megan Peters said. ….MORE

The Informant then gave Hall a disclosed amount of money and Hall entered the establishment. Hall then purchased an alcoholic beverage for the informant. The cashier acknowledged Hall was purchasing the alcohol for the same minor and sold the alcohol anyway. Hall was issued a civil citation for purchasing alcohol for a person knowingly under 21 years of age which carries a fine of up to $2,500.00.

Maryland: Eastern Shore law officers gear up for crackdown on drunk drivers

by admin ·

From Star.Dem.com

EASTON — Bryan Ross proposed to his girlfriend, Jennifer Edwards, on New Years Eve in 2007. Three days later, a drunk driving accident claimed his life, along with that of Edward’s 4-year-old daughter, Emma Grace.
The head-on collision happened in Rock Hall, and killed the 24-year-old drunk driver instantly. Ross fought for his life for 45 minutes; Emma fought for 8r hours. Edwards spent five days at a trauma center.
Once released, she had to plan and attend two funerals, figure out how to survive and explain to Emma’s then 6-year-old sister, Olivia, who was not in the car, that it was OK to think about Emma.
“It’s an emotional battle that happens every single day for us,” Edwards said Wednesday morning at the kickoff for Maryland’s Toward Zero Deaths campaign. “All three were taken for a senseless act.”  ….MORE

Michigan: State Police efforts over July 4th holiday netted 126 drunk drivers removed from highways

by admin ·

Michigan law enforcement officers made more than 3,700 traffic stops and arrested 126 drunk drivers during the Fourth of July Drunk Driving. Over the Limit. Under Arrest.crackdown July 1-8. This included 23 arrests under the state’s high blood alcohol content law (.17 or higher), while an additional 30 motorists were arrested for drug-related offenses.
According to the Michgan State Police, publicity about the enforcement effort included talking urinal cakes placed in 200 Michigan Licensed Beverage Association bar and restaurant restrooms to encourage and remind patrons to call a cab or a friend to get home safely. The unique devices inspired media outlets nationally and across the world to discuss the importance of designating a sober driver.
“Whether it’s an officer making an arrest or a conversation generated by an unconventional restroom reminder, removing impaired drivers from the roads saves lives,” said Michael L. Prince, director of the Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning (OHSP). “Efforts like this crackdown help make our communities safer and prevent a tragic loss of life.”
Preliminary reports indicate three people were killed in three separate crashes during this year’s Fourth of July holiday period. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in any of the crashes. Eight people were killed in traffic crashes in Michigan during last year’s holiday period; of those, three were alcohol-related.
Officers in 26 counties took part in the crackdown which was coordinated by OHSP and funded by federal traffic safety dollars. A similar crackdown in 2011 involved officers in 35 counties and resulted in 218 drunk driving arrests.
The grant-funded traffic enforcement also resulted in the apprehension of 130 fugitives. More than 120 seat belt and child seat violation tickets, 307 speeding tickets and 925 other traffic violation citations were also written.
