North Carolina: bus driver Barbara Thorne busted for DWI; police say she was loaded with bus loaded with kids

Louisburg, N.C. – A school bus driver in Louisburg has been suspended after she allegedly drove students to school while under the influence of alcohol. A Franklin County Schools spokesman said Thursday that Barbara Thorne, who drives Bus 196 to Terrell Lane Middle School, is on unpaid administrative leave pending an investigation by the school district.

Sheriff’s deputies were sent to a traffic collision around 7 p.m. near the intersection of Canal Road and Castaneda Road.

They found a 2003 GMC truck, reportedly driven by 16-year-old Vanessa Rodriguez, and a 2002 Hyundai Sonata driven by 32-year-old Elida Garcia.

Garcia was pronounced dead at the scene and a passenger in her vehicle, 50-year-old Maria Granados, was transported to an El Paso hospital for treatment of her injuries.

FARMINGTON, Conn. (8/27/2014) — A school bus driver charged Wednesday morning with driving 20 students to Irving Robbins Middle School while intoxicated has a previous drunken-driving arrest, state officials said.

Tammy Costello was charged with driving under the influence in May 2004 in Bristol, said Department of Motor Vehicles spokesman William Seymour. She completed the state’s alcohol education program on July 20, 2005, records indicate. Completion of the program results in charges being dismissed.

SLIDELL, LA. According to St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s deputies, a 41-year-old Slidell mother was arrested Thursday evening for driving while intoxicated after she was pulled over for driving erratically with her three young children in the vehicle.

Shortly before 8 p.m. Thursday a deputy was dispatched to Willow wood Subdivision near Slidell after several residents called to report a white GMC SUV driving recklessly through the neighborhood.

Residents told deputies the vehicle nearly ran over three people that were standing in their own yard, a man walking his dog and several mailboxes as well as narrowly avoiding at least one collision with another vehicle.
