California: Enrique Sanabria-Ruiz charged with DUI manslaughter for killing Earnest Slone; was clipped by truck mirror

05/15/2014 —Police report that on Tuesday, May 13, 2014, at about 4:00 p.m., the Santa Rosa Police Department responded to a vehicle vs. pedestrian collision near the intersection of Occidental Road at Stony Point Road. Upon arrival, officers learned that a 2002 Chevrolet 3500 pickup truck with a utility bed collided with a pedestrian who appeared to be preparing to get into his 1969 Cadillac, which was parked along the north side of Occidental Road just west of Stony Point Road.
Further investigation revealed that the driver of the pickup truck was under the influence of an alcoholic beverage at the time of the collision.
The pedestrian, Earnest McGlee Slone, 81, of Santa Rosa had been transported to an area hospital by ambulance prior to officers’ arrival at the scene, however he succumbed to injuries from the collision at the hospital.
The driver of the Chevrolet pickup truck was identified as 47-year-old Enrique Sanabria-Ruiz of Santa Rosa. Sanabria-Ruiz was booked into Sonoma County Jail on charges of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence (191.5(a) PC) and felony DUI (23153(a/b) CVC).
