NEW YORK: State Police report DWI arrests for August 2023 including Robert A. Johnson when he got a pole in one with front end of his Volvo

The following arrests were reported by the New York State Police

On August 20, 2023, at approximately 1:50 a.m. Troopers from the Montgomery barracks observed a 2002 Volvo S-60 traveling southbound on Water St in the city of Newburgh erratically. The Troopers observed the vehicle hit a construction sign and continue driving. Troopers initiated a vehicle and traffic stop at which point the vehicle fled and traveled through several city streets. The vehicle then drove down Washington St. when the operator lost control and struck a telephone pole on Front Street. The vehicle’s operator was identified as Robert A. Johnson, age 33, from the city of Newburgh. While being evaluated by troopers, it was determined that Johnson was impaired by alcohol, and he was subsequently arrested for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI). Troopers learned that Johnson was operating with a suspended license. His blood alcohol content (B.A.C.) was .17%.

Johnson was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Fleeing an Officer in a Motor Vehicle, Aggravated Unlicensed Operator 3rd degree, and Reckless Driving. He was also issued 21 tickets. He was released on an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in the City of Newburgh Court on September 18, 2023, at 9:00 a.m.

Nicole S. Mott says she was sucked into a ditch with a child in her car, busted for DWI.

On August 21, 2023, at approximately 6:55 pm, Troopers out of SP Fredonia arrested Nicole S. Mott, 31, of Sheridan, NY, for Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated With a Child (Leandra’s Law).

Troopers responded to a 911 call about a vehicle off the roadway on Fredonia Stockton Road in the town of Pomfret.  Troopers located the vehicle and observed Mott at the wheel and an 11-year-old child passenger.  Mott stated that she attempted to make a U-turn and got ‘sucked’ into the ditch.

During the interview with Mott, Troopers noted signs of impairment, including watery, bloodshot eyes and failure of standardized field sobriety tests at the scene.  The child was safely turned over to a family member. 

Mott was arrested and processed at SP Fredonia, where a chemical breath test revealed her to have a .14% BAC.  She was issued vehicle and traffic tickets and transported to Chautauqua County Jail for arraignment.

DWI drug arrest for Jason Lajoie in Grand Island

On August 18, 2023, Troopers out of SP Clarence arrested Jason A. Lajoie, 32, of Tonawanda, NY, for Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th

Troopers responded to a motor vehicle accident on Staley Road in the town of Grand Island.  During the interview, Lajoie was exhibiting signs of impairment. Troopers determined Lajoie had been operating a vehicle while in an impaired condition.  Troopers located narcotics inside the vehicle.  He was arrested and transported to Kenmore Mercy Hospital, where he submitted to a blood test.  Lajoie was released with appearance tickets for the town of Grand Island court, where he is due to appear at a later date.
