California: Los Altos Police seek witnesses to Miroslav Samardzija booze cruise that killed Tai-Jin Lee


Fatal DUI yesterday evening in Los Altos. Police seeking witnesses
. 2014-03-29 — On Thursday, March 27, 2014 at approximately 11:07 p.m., Los Altos Police and Santa Clara County Fire responded to the area of Fremont Avenue and Marymeade Lane on the report of a major injury accident. Upon arrival officers discovered a 2005 Chevrolet with major damage to the passenger side of the vehicle.
The driver was able to exit the vehicle but the passenger was gravely injured.
Santa Clara County Fire Department personnel, along with Rural Metro EMS, arrived at the scene to treat the involved parties. At approximately 11:15pm the passenger, a 27-year old male from Mountain View, was declared deceased.
The driver was transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries. At the hospital officers determined that the driver had been driving the vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. He was placed under arrest and remains at the hospital for treatment of his injuries.
Arrested (Driver): Miroslav Samardzija, 33-year-old resident of Mt. View CA. The driver was arrested for the following offenses: 191.5 PC Gross Vehicular Manslaughter while Intoxicated 23152(a) VC DUI Causing Bodily Injury 23103(a) VC Reckless Driving The cause of this collision in under investigation by the Los Altos Police Department Traffic Division and the joint Palo Alto/ Los Altos Specialized Traffic Accident Reconstruction (STAR) team. 2014-03-29 — According to the Mountain View the deceased has now been identified: Emergency crews responded and pronounced the passenger dead. He has only been identified as a 27-year-old Mountain View man, according to police. He was identified as Tai-Jin Lee by a spokeswoman from the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner’s office.
