Maryland: State Police Berlin Barrack reports DUI crashes and arrests for August of 2014

DUI arrests for August:  Troopers assigned to the Berlin Barrack were busy during the month of August trying to keep the roads in Worcester County as safe as possible for traveling.  Troopers made 51 DUI arrests during the month which was tied for the most DUI arrests in the state.

DUI-related Collision:  On August 27, 2014 at 1819 hrs, troopers responded to the area of US Route 113 and Langmaid Road regarding a two vehicle collision.  One of the drivers of the vehicles involved, Robert Lomax, was determined to be under the influence of alcohol.  Lomax was subsequently arrested, and he was charged with DUI and the collision event.  Both Lomax and the driver of the other vehicle involved were taken to PRMC in Salisbury for their injuries suffered in the collision.

DUI-related Collision:  On August 24, 2014 at 2202 hrs, troopers responded to US Route 50 and Keyser Point Road in Worcester County regarding a two vehicle collision.  Through the investigation troopers determined the driver of a Hyundai struck a Honda Pilot.  There were no injuries and minor damage, but troopers determined the driver of the Hyundai, Martha Redding, was under the influence of alcohol.  Redding was subsequently arrested and charged with the DUI and collision event.  Redding submitted to an evidentiary breath test yielding a result of 0.16 grams of alcohol per 210 ml of breath.

Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision:  On August 24, 2014 at 1736 hrs, troopers responded to the area of northbound US Route 113 and MD Route 589 regarding a reported collision.  Upon their arrival, troopers found the collision to be involving one motorcyle.  For reasons yet determined, the driver lost contol of the motorcycle, and it traveled off of the right roadside striking the guardrail.  The collision event killed the driver, Keith Ray Lambden of Salisbury, Maryland.  The case remains under investigation.

Disorderly Conduct:  On August 4, 2014 at 2212 hrs, troopers were called to respond to the Ocean Downs Casino by security workers who had detained Maurice Earl Vason, 48 years of age from Pittsburgh, PA, for public urination.  Vason was subsequently charged with disorderly conduct and released after being issued a citation.

DUI, Aggressive Driving, CDS Arrest: 

On August 4, 2014, at approximately 2044 hrs, troopers were working in the area of northbound US Route 113 and MD Route 575 as part of county-wide effort to reduce excessive speed and road rage incidents.  One trooper working the assignment observed a black BMW being operated at a speed of 87 mph in a 55 mph speed zone.

The driver of the BMW also attempted to pass another vehicle on the right via the roadway shoulder nearly striking the roadside guardrails.  Subsequently the trooper stopped the BMW, and the trooper upon approach of the driver immediately detected a strong odor of marijuana emanating from within the vehicle.

A probable cause search was conducted, and the trooper seized 63.29 grams of marijuana and two scales located within the vehicle.  The driver was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, DUI and several other traffic related charges.  Passengers Tanmoy Saha, Das Smith, and Hanif Mohammed Hassan were all charged with the CDS violations, as well.  All occupants were from Lansdale, Pennsylvania.
