Maryland State Police say Earl Johnson, was boozing while cruising wrong way on Rt. 301; ended his own life and severely injured Krystal Daniella-Lyn Lewis thathe hit head on

NEWBURG, MD.  –  Police say alcohol was a factor in a cruise on Rt. 301, on the wrong side of the divided highway that ended up in death for the perpetrator of the deadly decision to drive while impaired. Another innocent soul is now fighting for her life in a trauma unit as a result.

Maryland State Police in La Plata report that on Saturday, February 23, 2019, at approximately 12:42 am, Troopers from the Maryland State Police La Plata Barrack responded for a report of a motor vehicle collision involving two vehicles on southbound U.S. Route 301 in the area of Maryland Route 234 in Newburg, Maryland. Due to the circumstances, the Maryland State Police CRASH Team responded to assume the investigation.

A preliminary investigation conducted by Troopers from the MSP La Plata Barrack and the MSP CRASH Team indicates a 1995 Ford F-150 operated by Kevin Earl Johnson, 57, of 11530 Smith Point Road, Nanjemoy, Md., was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of United States Route 301 in the area of Maryland Route 234 in Newburg, Maryland. At the same time, a 2017 Honda Civic operated by

Krystal Daniella-Lyn Lewis, 22, of Newburg, Maryland was traveling on southbound U.S. Route 301 in the area of Maryland Route 234 in lane number one. The Ford F-150 collided head-on with the Honda Civic. After the collision, the Ford F-150 overturned and came to a final rest on its roof. The Honda Civic rotated counter-clockwise and came to a final rest in the roadway. The operator of the Ford F-150, Kevin Earl Johnson was pronounced deceased on the scene. The operator of the Honda Civic, Krystal Daniella-Lyn Lewis was transported by Maryland State Police helicopter Trooper 7 to University of Maryland Prince George’s Hospital for treatment. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the collision.

Johnson was cited for driving off a roadway while passing another vehicle on Rt. 301 near Port Tobacco Road on June 3, 2016, by Charles County Officer R. McMullen. He was fined $110.00.  Ironically, in 2013, Johnson posted the bond for a housemate when that person was arrested for DWI.
