12/07/2015  — Garner Police arrested 22-year-old Javier Orlando Alvarez-Lopez of Wake County for the September 9th fatal crash at Whiteoak Road and Timber Drive East in Garner. Alvarez-Lopez, pictured above, was charged with Driving While Impaired, Felony Death by Motor Vehicle, and Failing to Comply with License Restrictions. He is currently in the Wake County Jail under 100,000 bond.
Garner police were dispatched to a crash at White Oak Rd. and Timber Dr. East at approximately 6:31 p.m. on September 9, 2015.
The preliminary investigation indicates that a 2011 Cadillac SUV driven by Brenda Culbreth, age 69 of Garner, and a 2006 BMW sedan driven by Javier Orlando Alvarez Lopez, age 22 of Wake County, collided in the intersection. Mrs. Culbreth was transported to WakeMed Raleigh where she died.  Lopez, as well as his passengers, Jose Francisco Torres, age 23 of Wake County, and Agustin Alejo Pascual, age 21 of Wake County, were also transported to WakeMed Raleigh. All three occupants of the BMW sustained serious injuries.
The Garner Police Department’s Crash Reconstruction Team, as well as members of GPD’s Investigative Division, responded to investigate the cause and circumstances surrounding the crash. At this time, no charges have been filed, and the crash remains an active investigation. Anyone who witnessed the crash or was in the area of White Oak Rd./Timber Dr. E. with information is asked to contact the Garner Police Department at 919-772-8810.
