Theresa Kroes and her four friends were as close as family. Back from college, they reunited June 25 in their hometown for a cookout. “We had a long history,” friend Molly Mitzelfeldt said, “and we should have had a long future.”
But Jesse Herrmann stole one from their circle.
Herrmann was drunk and speeding north on Hwy. 35 in Onalaska when his pickup plowed into a car turning on Evergreen Way, killing Kroes and seriously injuring her four friends.
“I will never forget the pain of losing my friend and the memories of what happened that day,” passenger Jaime Panzer said.
The crash affected the victims, families and witnesses, many who gathered in a courtroom Monday to learn Herrmann’s fate.
