New York: State Police report DWI arrests for Dec. 18, 2016; Kristine Thurston ran red light while DWI

New York State Police DWI arrests for Dec. 18, 2016

On December 17th, 2016, the New York State Police arrested Kristine Thurston, 34, of Dunkirk, for Driving While Intoxicated.

Thurston was pulled over on Route 5 in Dunkirk for driving through a red light and after failing several SFSTs, Thurston was placed under arrest.  Thurston was transported to SP Fredonia where she provided a breath sample of .13.  Thurston was then processed, issued tickets returnable to the City of Dunkirk Court and released.  Thurston is scheduled to appear in the City of Dunkirk Court next month to answer the charge.

Troop K removed 17 impaired drivers from the roadways this past weekend

Troop K – In an effort to remove intoxicated and impaired drivers from the roadways throughout Dutchess, Putnam and Westchester Counties, the New York State Police from Troop K made the following DWI arrests between Friday, December 9, 2016, and Sunday, December 11, 2016:

On December 9, 2016, New York State Police from Wappinger arrested David F. Markert, 27 years old, of Poughkeepsie, New York, for Driving While Intoxicated, a Misdemeanor.  Markert was stopped by police on Main Street in Poughkeepsie and found to be intoxicated.  The defendant provided a positive breath sample that yielded a blood-alcohol content of .11%.  He is scheduled to appear in the Town of Poughkeepsie Court on December 22, 2016.

On December 10, 2016, State Police from the East Fishkill barracks arrested 23-year-old Jose A. Hernandez III, of Brooklyn, New York, for Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs and Criminal Possession of Marihuana 4th Degree, both Misdemeanors.  Hernandez was stopped by Police on Interstate 84 for speeding.  An investigation revealed that he was impaired by drugs and in possession of approximately 87 grams of marijuana at the time of the stop.  Hernandez was arraigned in the Town of Southeast Court and remanded to the Putnam County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail.  He is due to appear in Southeast Court on January 19, 2017.

On December 10, 2016, New York State Troopers from Stormville arrested 34-year-old Matthew Cann of Patterson, NY, for Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated under Leandra’s Law, a Felony.  Subsequent to a traffic stop conducted on Interstate 84 for speeding, Cann was found to be intoxicated. He was charged with DWI under Leandra’s Law as his 8-year-old daughter was in the vehicle at the time of the stop.  The defendant provided a breath sample that revealed a Blood Alcohol Content of .12% and was issued traffic tickets directing him to appear in the Town of Kent Court on December 21, 2016.

On December 10, 2016, State Police from Poughkeepsie charged Michael B. Walsh, 51 years old, of Dover Plains, NY, with Driving While Intoxicated and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the 1st Degree, both Felonies.  Troopers stopped the vehicle Walsh was operating on Route 44 for failing to maintain his lane of travel.  Walsh was found to be intoxicated at the time of the stop and operating with a revoked driver’s license due to a previous DWI-related arrest. The Defendant provided a breath sample that revealed a Blood Alcohol Content of .12% and was issued traffic tickets directing him to appear in the Town of Washington Court on December 20, 2016.

On December 10, 2016, New York State Police from the Poughkeepsie barracks arrested 36-year-old Donald J. Pinder of Poughkeepsie, New York, for DWI, a Misdemeanor.  Pinder was arrested for DWI following a traffic stop conducted on Route 44 for driving over 20 miles per hour below the posted speed limit.  The defendant provided a breath sample that revealed a Blood Alcohol Content of .17% and was issued traffic tickets directing him to appear in the Town of Pleasant Valley Court on December 20, 2016.

On December 10, 2016, New York State Police from Poughkeepsie charged 25-year-old Michael E. Wright of Pleasant Valley, NY, with Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree, both Misdemeanors.  Subsequent to a traffic stop conducted on Degarmo Road for vehicle and traffic violations, Wright was found to be impaired by drugs.  He was also charged with possessing heroin.  Wright was issued traffic tickets returnable to the Town of LaGrange Court at a later date and time.  He was then transported to SP Newburgh to answer a warrant issued by the Town of Newburgh Court ordering his arrest.

On December 10, 2016, New York State Police from the Poughkeepsie barracks arrested 27-year-old Caitlin L. Friel, of Wappinger, New York, for DWI, a Misdemeanor.  Friel was charged with DWI following a traffic stop for failing to dim her high beams to oncoming traffic. Friel provided a breath sample that yielded a Blood Alcohol Content of .10% and was issued traffic tickets directing her to appear in the Town of Pleasant Valley Court on December 15, 2016.

On December 10, 2016, the New York State Police from Poughkeepsie arrested Raymond H. Chan, age 31, of Poughkeepsie, New York, for DWI, a Misdemeanor.  Trooper stopped Chan on Noxon Road for speeding and observed clues that indicated he was intoxicated at the time of the stop.  The defendant supplied a breath sample that revealed a Blood Alcohol Content of .11% and was issued traffic tickets directing him to appear in the Town of LaGrange Justice Court on December 20, 2016.

On December 10, 2016, New York State Police from Brewster charged Stephen Hughes, 52 years old, of Danbury, CT, with Driving While Intoxicated, a Misdemeanor and Unlawful Possession of Marihuana, a Violation.  Troopers stopped Hughes on Interstate 84 for speeding. A subsequent investigation revealed that he was intoxicated at the time of the traffic stop.  Hughes provided a breath sample revealing a BAC of .10% and is due to appear in the Town of Southeast Court on January 5, 2017.

On December 10, 2016, New York State Police from Stormville arrested Marleik D. Patterson, age 27, of Albany, New York, for DWI, a Misdemeanor.  Patterson was stopped by police on the Taconic State Parkway for speeding.  A subsequent investigation revealed that he was intoxicated at the time of the stop. The defendant provided a breath sample that revealed a Blood Alcohol Content of .11% and was directed to appear in the Town of Putnam Valley Court on December 22, 2016.

On December 10, 2016, New York State Police from the Cortlandt barracks arrested 46-year-old William C. McGowan, of Putnam Valley, New York, for Driving While Intoxicated.  McGowan was arrested for DWI following a traffic stop conducted on Westbrook Drive. The defendant provided a breath sample that revealed a Blood Alcohol Content of .12% and was issued traffic tickets returnable to the Town of Cortlandt Court on December 19, 2016.

On December 11, 2016, 29-year-old Denise M. McLaughlin, of Mohegan Lake, NY, was arrested by State Police in Stormville for Driving While Intoxicated, a Misdemeanor.  Troopers stopped McLaughlin for speeding on the Taconic State Parkway and an investigation revealed that she was intoxicated. The defendant provided a breath sample that yielded a BAC of .10% and was issued traffic tickets returnable to the Town of Yorktown Court on December 22, 2016.

On December 11, 2016, State Police from the Brewster barracks arrested 25-year-old Samantha Gunn of Garrison, New York, for Driving While Intoxicated, a Misdemeanor.  Troopers arrested Gunn following a traffic stop conducted on Interstate 84 for speeding. The defendant provided a breath sample that revealed a BAC of .11%.  She was issued traffic tickets returnable to the Town of Southeast Court on January 26, 2017.

On December 11, 2016, State Police from Brewster charged Andrew M. Lopez, 31 years old, of Carmel, NY, with Driving While Intoxicated, a Felony.  Troopers stopped the vehicle Lopez was operating on Interstate 84 for speeding.  Lopez was found to be intoxicated at the time of the stop. He was charged with Felony DWI when a criminal history revealed a previous DWI-related conviction from 2011.  The Defendant provided a breath sample that revealed a Blood Alcohol Content of .16% and was issued traffic tickets directing him to appear in the Town of Southeast Court on January 10, 2017.

On December 11, 2016, New York State Police from the East Fishkill barracks arrested 32-year-old Quinton Gelderman of Brookfield, Connecticut, for Driving While Intoxicated, a Misdemeanor.  Gelderman was arrested for DWI following a welfare check conducted on Interstate 84.  The defendant provided a breath sample that revealed a Blood Alcohol Content of .13% and was issued traffic tickets directing him to appear in the Town of Southeast Court on January 10, 2017.

On December 11, 2016, New York State Police from Somers charged 24-year-old Catherine A. Orza of Briarcliff Manor, NY, with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated, a Misdemeanor.  Subsequent to a traffic stop conducted on Route 35, Orza was found to be intoxicated.  The defendant provided a breath sample that revealed a BAC of .20%, more than two times the legal limit of intoxication.  She was issued appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Somers Court on December 19, 2016.

On December 11, 2016, New York State Police from the Cortlandt barracks arrested 43-year-old Miguel A. Guaman, of Woodside, New York, for Driving While Intoxicated under Leandra’s Law, a Felony.  Troopers stopped Guaman on the Bear Mountain Parkway for failing to dim his high beams to oncoming traffic.  The defendant provided a breath sample that revealed a Blood Alcohol Content of .09% and was charged with DWI under Leandra’s Law for operating the vehicle with two passengers under the age of 16.  Guaman was arraigned in the Town of Cortlandt Court and remanded to the Westchester County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $5,000 bond.

Intoxicated and impaired drivers put others at risk.  It is a priority of the State Police in Troop K to keep impaired or intoxicated drivers off of our roadways so law-abiding citizens can safely travel throughout our patrol area.
A Freeville man was arrested for DWI after crashing and then running away

(Freeville, NY – December 12, 2016) On December 9, 2016, at about 10:40 p.m., New York State Police at Ithaca arrested Harvey J. Sherwood, 31, of Freeville, NY for the misdemeanor of Driving While Intoxicated and other traffic violations.  This arrest occurred after troopers investigated a one car personal injury crash that happened on Bone Plain Road in the Town of Dryden.

An investigation determined that Sherwood was intoxicated when he crashed his vehicle into a sign, then a tree, and then fled the scene on foot.  He was located about 300 feet away from the scene in the woods.  Sherwood was transported to Upstate Medical for facial injuries.  There he consented to having his blood tested for alcohol but the lab results are pending.

Sherwood was issued tickets returnable to the Town of Freeville Court on January 9, 2017.  Do to his injuries no arrest picture is available at this time because he has not been processed yet.

Troopers Arrest Amsterdam Woman for DWAI-Drug

Shania M. Rodriguez, 40, of Amsterdam, NY for driving while ability impaired due to drugs

On December 16th the State Police in Princetown arrested Shania M. Rodriguez, 40, of Amsterdam, NY for driving while ability impaired due to drugs, a misdemeanor.  Troopers responded to the Valero gas station at 6030 Duanesburg Road in the Town of Duanesburg for what was initially reported as a possible overdose.  Upon arrival, Troopers were able to determine that there was no overdose, however, while interviewing Rodriguez Troopers report observing her to be disoriented and lethargic.  Troopers report that Rodriguez stated she had taken prescription medication prior to driving to Valero.  Troopers administered field sobriety test on Rodriguez which she failed.  Rodriguez was taken into custody and transported to SP Princetown where she was evaluated by a drug recognition expect.  Rodriguez submitted to a chemical test and was processed.  Rodriguez was released on tickets returnable to the Town of Duanesburg on 12/28/16 at 6:00 PM.

Driver stopped for cell phone violation charged with Aggravated DWI

Oneida-based state police charged a North Syracuse man with Aggravated DWI following a traffic stop in the Town of Verona Saturday evening.
At approximately 9:10 p.m. on December 17, Trooper Steven Fountain observed a 2001 Ford F-150 pickup truck traveling southwest on State Route 365 near Patrick Road weaving back and forth from the driving lane to the passing lane of the four-lane divided highway.  The operator was also observed to be using a cell phone while driving.  Trooper Fountain stopped the pickup truck and interviewed the operator Patrick V. Cafarchio, age 24, of Reddick Drive, North Syracuse.  While speaking with Cafarchio, Trooper Fountain observed a strong odor of alcoholic beverage on his breath and also an odor of marijuana coming from inside the cab of the truck.  Sobriety tests indicated that Cafarchio was intoxicated and he was taken into custody for DWI.  A smoking pipe and grinder containing marijuana were located in the center console of the truck.  Cafarchio was transported to the state police barracks in Oneida for processing, where a breath test determined Cafarchio’s blood-alcohol content to be .20%.  A DMV check revealed the truck’s registration had been suspended due to no insurance in effect.  Cafarchio was issued traffic tickets for DWI, Aggravated DWI with a BAC of .18% or greater, failure to keep right, using a portable electronic device while driving, operating with a suspended registration, no insurance, uninspected motor vehicle and unlawful possession of marijuana.  He is scheduled to appear in the Town of Verona Court on January 3, 2017.

Prattsburgh Man Arrested for Felony DWI in N. Dansville

Jeremiah D. Young, age 41, from Prattsburgh, NY. Further investigation revealed that Young was intoxicated

On 12/07/2016 at 10:29 p.m., State Police from SP Geneseo stopped a Toyota Camry on I-390, Town of North Dansville, for driving 79 mph in a 65 mph zone.  The operator was identified as Jeremiah D. Young, age 41, from Prattsburgh, NY.  Further investigation revealed that Young was intoxicated and he was taken into custody.  Young submitted to a breath test with a result of .11 BAC.  He was charged with Felony DWI due to a prior conviction and also ticketed for speeding and open container of alcohol in a vehicle.   Young was arraigned before the Town of North Dansville Court and remanded to the Livingston County Jail on $7,500 cash or $15,000 bond.  He is scheduled to appear back in the North Dansville Court on 12/13/2016 at 8:00 p.m.

On December 11, 2016, at approximately 12:30 a.m. State Police responded to the intersection of Duquette Road and Military Turnpike in Beekmantown for a report of a one-car crash.

A 2002 Dodge Intrepid, operated by 22-year-old Anthony J. Baker of Schuyler Falls, was traveling west on Duquette Road when he failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection with Military Turnpike. His vehicle struck a town sign and came to rest in a field on the west shoulder of Military Turnpike. Baker was not injured. He was subsequently placed under arrest for DWI.

His blood alcohol content was determined to be .20%.  Baker was charged with Aggravated DWI and further ticketed for failure to stop at a stop sign, and moved from lane unsafely. He was released with tickets directing him to appear in the Beekmantown Town Court on December 14, 2016, at 5 p.m.

Ivan Ramos, 49, of Dryden, NY for the misdemeanor of Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs and other traffic violations.

(Dryden, NY – December 14, 2016) On December 13, 2016, at about 1:41 p.m., New York State Police at Ithaca arrested Ivan Ramos, 49, of Dryden, NY for the misdemeanor of Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs and other traffic violations.

This arrest occurred after troopers responded to a Tompkins County 911 report of a two-car property damage crash that occurred on Graduate Drive in the Town of Dryden. An investigation determined that Ramos had crashed into another vehicle while his ability to drive was impaired by prescription drugs.  He was transported to Cayuga Medical Center where his blood was tested for drugs and the lab results are pending.

Ramos was issued tickets returnable to the Town of Dryden Court on January 23, 2017

On December 13, 2016, at approximately 9:15 p.m. State Police responded to a report of a disabled vehicle on State Route 3 in the town of Pitcairn.  A 2014 Chevrolet Silverado, operated by Ryan P. Marolf, 29, of Harrisville, was found parked on the side of the road in the hamlet of Harrisville.

Marolf was subsequently arrested for DWI. An 11-year-old female child was in the vehicle at the time of the incident. Marolf’s blood alcohol content was determined to be 0.22%.  Marolf was charged with Aggravated DWI for having a BAC of .18% or higher, and Aggravated DWI under Leandra’s Law.

Marolf was arraigned in the Town of Gouverneur Court where he was released to the supervision of probation. Marolf is to reappear in the Town of Pitcairn Court on January 15, 2017, at 7 p.m.

On December 7th, 2016, the New York State Police arrested Thomas Stanton, 65, of Bemus Point, for Aggravated DWI.

Stanton was pulled over on Maple Springs-Ellery Road in Bemus Point for driving erratically and after failing several SFSTs, Stanton was placed under arrest.  Stanton was transported to SP Jamestown where he provided a breath sample of .20.  Stanton was then processed, issued tickets returnable to the Town of Ellery Court and released.  Stanton is scheduled to appear in the Town of Ellery Court next month to answer the charge.

 

 

Man arrested for Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated

On December 16, 2016, SP Fillmore Troopers arrested Anthony R. Shelton, 31, of Angelica, NY with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated.

Troopers investigating an erratic operator complaint located a vehicle operated by Shelton that had left a parking lot and struck a tree in the Village of Angelica.  Upon interview of Shelton, the odor of an alcoholic beverage was detected.  Shelton refused all SFSTs.  He was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated and was transported to SP Amity where he recorded a 0.19% BAC.  He was arraigned before the Town of Friendship Court and was remanded to the Allegany County Jail in lieu of $5000 cash/$10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear before the Village of Angelica Court at a later date.

State Police at Niagara arrest Niagara Falls man for DWI.

Nathan Runge, 27, of Niagara Falls, NY, for DWI following a traffic stop on Lockport Rd in the Town of Wheatfield.

On December 12, 2016, at approximately 10:46 pm, Troopers arrested Nathan Runge, 27, of Niagara Falls, NY, for DWI following a traffic stop on Lockport Rd in the Town of Wheatfield.

Runge was stopped after a witness called 911 to report that his vehicle was being operated in an erratic manner.  Following the stop, Troopers noticed an odor of alcoholic beverage on Runge’s breath.  Subsequent to Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, Runge was taken into custody for DWI and transported to SP Niagara for processing where a breath test showed his BAC to be .10%.  Runge was charged with DWI and issued appearance tickets returnable in the Town of Wheatfield Court.

Troopers Arrest Clifton Park Man for DWAI Drugs
On Nov 26, Troopers were called to Glenridge Rd in Rexford for a car accident.  The driver of the vehicle was located at his residence a short time later.  He was injured and was transported to the hospital for medical treatment.  On Dec. 14, Paul Aproian, 19, from Rexford was arrested for this accident.  He was charged with DWAI drugs, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation 3rd, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th, and Marihuana Possession.  He turned himself in and was released to reappear in Clifton Park Court at a later date.

 

 

 

Mark Settlemyer Jr, 30 of Lancaster, NY

 

Mark Settlemyer arrested for DWI after crash

New York State Police reports that on December 2, 2016, Troopers arrested Mark Settlemyer Jr, 30 of Lancaster, NY, for Driving While Intoxicated.

Settlemyer was involved in a motor vehicle collision on 9/25/2016 on Mount Monroe Road in the Town of New Hudson.  While at hospital Settlemyer consented to a blood draw for testing.  Test results indicated his BAC was 0.16%.  He was processed at SP Amity and released on tickets returnable to the Town of New Hudson on 12/13/2016 at 7:00 PM.
