KINGMAN — 06/09/2017 – Councilman Stuart Yocum offered a statement to the general public at Tuesday’s City Council meeting following a drunk driving arrest that occurred Wednesday of last week.
“There was an incident last week, it was regrettable, it was unfortunate,” Yocum said at Tuesday’s meeting.
Yocum’s incident includes having been reported as running a stop sign and traveling at 45 mph in a 25 mph zone near Hall Street and Broadway Avenue.
Yocum was booked into Mohave County Jail on two charges – DUI; alcohol, drugs, toxic, vapor or combination, and DUI with a BAC above .08 percent.
“Matters of this sort tend to get sensationalized,” Yocum said
“Matters of this sort tend to get sensationalized,” Yocum said. “DUIs are a problem, a serious problem. If you are going to get behind the wheel, don’t drink even one.”
Yocum then closed out his statement by saying, “that being said, we can move forward.” MORE
Councilman Yocum pushed for his crony, an ex-con convicted of burglary, to be appointed to Clean City Commission
From Daily Minor
He was booked into the Mohave County jail, charged with DUI to the slightest degree and DUI with a BAC above .08 percent.
“It’s a very unfortunate incident and I hope he finds resolution,” said Mayor Monica Gates.
Yocum has been a member of City Council since 2014. He defeated Kent Simmons in a runoff election by a seven-point margin.
Yocum’s campaign was about no new taxes and job creation.
Yocum lobbied hard in in March 2016 for the appointment of Michael Moreno to the Clean City Commission.
A few weeks prior to the City Council discussion regarding Moreno’s appointment, he was arrested for DUI himself. Yocum acknowledged at the time he was a passenger in Moreno’s car.
Yokum had made the motion for Moreno to be placed on the commission, but the rest of the council had reservations.
The motion died with the added information that Moreno had spent two years in prison for breaking probation on a second-degree burglary conviction in Mohave County in 2010. MORE
