CALIFORNIA: Joaquin Duarte jailed on manslaughter and hit and run in fatal crash; William King now identified as the victim

Fatal Hit and Run Collision / Vehicular Manslaughter –

UPDATE On April 5th, 2023, at 1:06 am, the South San Francisco Police Department investigated a fatal hit-and-run collision involving a pedestrian and a motor vehicle on the 1500 block of El Camino Real. Detectives diligently gathered evidence and conducted interviews, leading them to the identification of the driver and vehicle that fled the scene. The driver was identified as 52-year-old Joaquin Duarte, who at the time of the collision, was on duty and working as a Systems Service Foreworker for Bay Area Rapid Transit. On April 18th, detectives arrested Duarte for vehicular manslaughter and leaving the scene of an injury collision. Duarte is currently in custody at the San Mateo County Jail in Redwood City.

A pedestrian trying to cross the southbound lanes of the thoroughfare was hit by a vehicle and died at the scene. He has been identified by the San Mateo County Coroner’s Office as William King, 45, of South San Francisco.
