CALIFORNIA: Oscar Almeida charged with murder/DUI in Tulare County fatal crash

Published reports and court records show that authorities have identified Sergio Alcantar as the driver who was injured Friday evening in an alleged DUI hit-and-run accident that also left a woman dead in Tulare County.

The crash was reported shortly before 6:00 p.m. Friday, March 8 at the intersection of Avenue 184 and Road 64, near Paige Avenue and collided head-on with a 2012 Chevrolet driven by Sergio Alcantar.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Oscar Almeida, 27, was driving a 2003 Honda at the intersection when he allowed the vehicle to drift into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a 2012 Chevrolet driven by Alcantar.

Alcantar sustained minor injuries and his passenger, a 62-year-old Tulare woman, was declared dead at the scene. The name of the woman not been disclosed pending notification of next of kin.

Almeida was arrested and booked into Tulare County Jail on suspicion of driving under the influence.
