California: woman charged with vehicular manslaughter in fatal DUI crash

A 25-year-old East Palo Alto woman was charged with vehicular manslaughter Tuesday for her role in a fatal drunken driving crash last week, the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office said.
Leylani Simmons appeared in Superior Court with large bruises covering most of the left side of her face but did not enter a plea, according to Deputy District Attorney Peter Lynch. Judge James Ellis set her bail at $500,000, Lynch said.
In addition to a felony count of vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated with gross negligence, Simmons was charged with felony counts of drunken driving causing injury or death and driving with a blood-alcohol level at or above 0.08 causing injury or death…..MORE
