LONGMONT — Boulder County Judge Norma Sierra declined prosecutor Michael Foote’s request on Friday that the bond for the suspect in Thursday afternoon’s DUI accident be increased from $20,000 to $1 million.
But she did increase it to $100,000.
Foote argued that 52-year-old Gary Sheats of Longmont is a threat to the community because of his multiple DUI offenses and because he had a blood-alcohol content of .292 after Thursday’s wreck, which left a 27-year-old woman in critical condition and her near-term fetus dead.
Sheats is a five-time DUI offender, according to Longmont police.
