LAKE CHARLES– This past week, police reported that troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop D arrested 33-year-old Freddy Lynn Bohler of Sulphur for his role in a fatal car crash that resulted in the deaths of three people including a 3-year-old on April 1, 2011, in Allen Parish. Based upon follow-up investigation, eyewitness accounts, and forensic evidence, an arrest warrant was obtained on Bohler for three counts of vehicular homicide, DWI 1st offense, reckless operation, obstruction of justice, no seatbelt, criminal mischief, filing a false public record, no head lamps, two counts of negligent injuring, and interfering with the duties of a state trooper.
The Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations and the Louisiana State Police Crime Laboratory partnered with Troop D on this investigation. Bohler was booked into the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center without bond and will subsequently be transferred to the Allen Parish Jail. The Allen Parish District Attorney’s Office will handle the case.
The crash occurred on April 1, 2011 when a northbound 1999 Toyota Avalon was driven at a high rate of speed into the back of a 1996 Dodge Ram pick-up driven by 45-year-old Gregory Sprinkle of Leesville. The impact caused the vehicle Sprinkle was driving to travel off of the roadway, rollover, and strike a tree. Sprinkle and two other occupants in his vehicle, Betty Sprinkle and 3-year-old Daylan Sprinkle, died as a result of the crash. Another passenger in the vehicle was transported from the scene with moderate injuries.
The vehicle that struck Sprinkle’s vehicle was occupied by 26-year-old Michael Cade Martin of Alexandria and 33-year-old Freddy Bohler of Lake Charles. Both sustained minor injuries and each claimed the other was driving.
