FROM THE CHESAPEAKE TODAY

ARNOLD, MD. Another boozing driver on Maryland roadways blew a red light on Rt. 2 at College Parkway and in addition to ending his own life, caused an innocent victim to die as well.

Anne Arundel County Police report that on Tuesday May 5, 2015 at approximately 7:08 p.m., officers responded to a multi-vehicle motor vehicle collision on northbound Ritchie Hwy (MD-2) at College Parkway in Arnold.

Valencia of 1204 Summerwood Court in Arnold, Md., was southbound on Ritchie Hwy facing a red left turn arrow. The driver of that vehicle turned left towards College Pkwy in the path of a GMC truck that was headed northbound on Ritchie Hwy. The GMC struck the passenger side of the Nissan causing it to overturn. The vehicles eventually came to rest after the GMC pushed the Nissan sideways out of the intersection into the traffic signal support pole.

The driver of the Nissan, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the GMC, , Charles Michael Nossick, 56, of Severna Park, Md., who was ejected, was taken by ambulance to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center with critical injuries. He died not long after arrival.

The cause of the collision appears to be the failure of the Nissan driver to obey the red left turn signal arrow.

Police report that a contributing factor appears to be alcohol use by Valencia.

Valencia was cited for following too closely by Anne Arundel Officer W. Daughters on July 22, 2013 on Md. Rt. 10 and in District Court on Oct. 11, 2013 he was given a Probation before Judgment and fined $74.50.

Valencia was cited for driving an uninsured vehicle on July 3, 2009 by Anne Arundel Police and on March 3, 2010 he was given Probation Before Judgment and fined $200 in Anne Arundel District Court.

Valencia was cited for several charges related to driving with a suspended drivers permit on Oct. 21, 2005 and in Baltimore County Circuit Court he entered a guilty plea but was found guilty and sentenced to jail for 90 days which the Judge immediately suspended and put him on unsupervised probation for one year.

Valencia was arrested for DUI by a Maryland State Trooper on July 29, 2006 at 3:36 am and in Anne Arundel District Court on Oct. 4, 2006 he was given a free ride by the Anne Arundel County States Attorney who accepted a guilty plea in a bargain with a fine of $92.50 and no time, as the 60 day sentence was suspended.

Valencia was arrested on charges of theft by way of criminal information filed in Anne Arundel County Circuit Court on March 23, 2004 and the charges were put on the Stet Docket on June 15, 2004.
