Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department– Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) continue to investigate a single-vehicle, fatal collision that occurred early on Nov. 30, 2014 in Olney.

At approximately 4:11 a.m., officers and Fire & Rescue personnel responded to the area of Hines Road at Blossom View Drive for the report of a collision.  Preliminary investigation indicates that a 2000 Ford Explorer was traveling east on Hines Road (towards Georgia Avenue) when for reasons still under investigation, it left the roadway just prior to Blossom View Drive and struck a tree and light support pole.

The 29-year-old driver was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.  The 43-year-old female passenger was declared deceased at the scene of the collision.

Detectives are investigating the possibility that alcohol may have been a factor in this fatal collision.

The driver is identified as Robert Walter Lee, age 29, of the unit block of Whetstone Drive in Gaithersburg.  The deceased passenger is identified as Lisa Ann Smith, age 43, of the 17400 block of Gallagher Way in Olney.

Preliminary investigation indicates that a 2000 Ford Explorer was traveling east on Hines Road (towards Georgia Avenue) when for reasons still under investigation, it left the roadway just prior to Blossom View Drive and struck a tree and light support pole. The 29-year-old driver was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The 43-year-old female passenger was declared deceased at the scene of the collision.
