The anguished family of a 6-year-old girl mowed down by a drunk driver as she chased an ice cream truck wept Tuesday when her killer was spared even a single day behind bars.
Kent Lowrie, 53, pleaded guilty to vehicular manslaughter last fall for the accident that left Zhaneya Butcher dead on a Queens street five months earlier.
Sobbing relatives of the girl bitterly bemoaned the sentence of five years probation handed down to Lowrie.
“Her daughter is dead and it’s like it’s nothing,” said grandmother Vanessa Williams, standing with the dead girl’s mom. “He’s going home.” ….MORE
