Durham, N.C., June 18, 2014—Durham County Sheriff Mike Andrews is pleased to announce the promotion of several deputies. The promotion ceremony was held June 13.
“Promotions are always an exciting time at the Sheriff’s Office,” Sheriff Andrews said. “These people have dedicated many years to the Sheriff’s Office and the Durham community, and I’m pleased they have been selected to serve as our next generation of leaders. They are certainly deserving and capable of the additional responsibility that comes with being a supervisor.”
• Raheem Aleem was promoted to from lieutenant to captain and will serve in the community services division. Aleem has worked for the Sheriff’s Office for 17 years. He holds a bachelor’s degree from North Carolina Central University and an Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate from the North Carolina Sheriffs’ Education and Training Standards Commission. He is also an Army veteran.
• Jeff Daughtry was promoted from sergeant to lieutenant and will serve in the court security division. Daughtry has worked for the Sheriff’s Office for 18 years. He is a certified instructor in firearms, physical fitness and arrest techniques. He holds an Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate from the North Carolina Sheriffs’ Education and Training Standards Commission and is a member of the Sheriff’s Emergency Response Team.
• Morial Whitaker was promoted from sergeant to lieutenant and will serve in the patrol division. Whitaker has worked for the Sheriff’s Office for 15 years. Whitaker is a member of the Sheriff’s Hazardous Devices Unit and holds an Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate from the North Carolina Sheriffs’ Education and Training Standards Commission. He also has a bachelor’s degree from North Carolina Central University.
• Anthony Marino was promoted from corporal to sergeant and will serve in the court security division. Marino has worked for the Sheriff’s Office for 25 years—beginning his career after he retired from the U.S. Navy. He is a former honor guard member and currently serves on the Sheriff’s State Medical Assistance Team.
• Tracey Meier was promoted from corporal to sergeant and will serve in the civil division. Meier has worked for the Sheriff’s Office for 18 years. Meier has worked previously in several positions within the Sheriff’s Office including narcotics. She holds a master’s degree in criminal justice.
• Casey Norwood was promoted from corporal to sergeant. Norwood has worked for the Sheriff’s Office for 11 years. He is an Army veteran and holds an Intermediate Law Enforcement Certificate from the North Carolina Sheriffs’ Education and Training Standards Commission. Norwood is also a member of the Sheriff’s Negotiations Response team.
• Georgette O’Mary was promoted from corporal to sergeant and will serve in the court security division. O’Mary has worked for the Sheriff’s Office for 18 years. She is a certified general instructor and holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She also led Sheriff’s Office’s first Juvenile Assistance Summer Program for young women.
• Len Roberts was promoted from corporal to sergeant and will serve in the patrol division. Roberts has worked for the Sheriff’s Office for 11 years and has worked in several divisions including investigations, civil and court security.
• Jeff Smith was promoted from corporal to sergeant and will serve in the criminal investigations division. Smith has worked for the Sheriff’s Office for 15 years. He is a member of the Sheriff’s Search and Recovery Team and volunteers with the Raleigh-Durham Young Marines program. He holds a graduate certificate in criminal justice and Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate from the North Carolina Sheriffs’ Education and Training Standards Commission. Smith is also a certified drug recognition expert and a U.S. Navy veteran.
• Robert Cox was promoted from deputy to corporal and will serve in the criminal investigations division. He has worked for the Sheriff’s Office for 21 years. Cox’s previous assignments include patrol, court security and transportation.
• Tisha Jones was promoted from deputy to corporal and will serve in the community services division. She has worked for the Sheriff’s Office for 10 years. Jones is a field training officer and a crisis intervention officer. She holds a bachelor’s degree from North Carolina Central University and an Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate from the North Carolina Sheriffs’ Education and Training Standards Commission.
• Brad Kirby was promoted from deputy to corporal and will serve in the civil division. He has worked for the Sheriff’s Office for 16 years. Kirby and his K9 Dreyfus work as the Sheriff’s Office’s explosives and cadaver detection team. He holds Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate from the North Carolina Sheriffs’ Education and Training Standards Commission and is a deacon at Olive Branch Baptist Church.
• Jason Petty was promoted from deputy to corporal and will serve in the warrants division. He has worked for the Sheriff’s Office for seven years. Petty is a member of the Sheriff’s Emergency Response Team and a certified instructor in physical fitness and vehicle driving.
• Wendy Pinner was promoted from deputy to corporal and will serve in the animal services division. She has worked for the Sheriff’s Office for 10 years. Pinner holds a bachelor’s degree from Lake Erie College and an Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate from the North Carolina Sheriffs’ Education and Training Standards Commission. She is also a certified general instructor and field training officer
