ELYRIA — Tom Tomasheski was surrounded by family and friends Friday as Gerald Wetherbee Jr. pleaded guilty to charges stemming from the crash a year ago that critically injured him and his daughter and killed his wife, Tammy Tomasheski, and their 11-year-old son, Tommy Tomasheski.
Wetherbee, 36, appeared on the verge of tears as he quietly entered guilty pleas to charges of aggravated vehicular homicide, aggravated vehicular assault, vehicular assault, DUI and driving under suspension.
He will face up to 36 years in prison when he is sentenced June 22, and prosecutors have said they plan to ask Lorain County Common Pleas Judge James Burge for the maximum sentence. Burge told Wetherbee that he will also lose his driving privileges for the rest of his life.
In exchange for the plea in the crash case, prosecutors dropped charges of tampering with records and failure to register as a sex offender in an unrelated case that dealt with allegations that Wetherbee was lying to the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office about where he was living. ….MORE
