WATERBURY — The Public Safety Department plans to remain silent regarding allegations that a state trooper lacked sufficient reason to stop or arrest off-duty Burlington Deputy Police Chief Andi Higbee, who faces a drunken driving charge.

“I have no comment on it. It’s a pending case,” Public Safety Commissioner Keith Flynn said in an interview at his office Thursday in Waterbury.

He referred questions to Franklin County State’s Attorney James Hughes. The traffic stop was made on Vermont 105 in Sheldon at about 12:10 a.m. July 21 after Higbee left a concert at the Sheldon Casino.
