LANCASTER, CALIF.  12/23/2015 — A 58-year-old man was sentenced Dec. 15, 2015 to 15 years to life in state prison for crashing into a motorcyclist killed as he returned home from a charity ride, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Deputy District Attorney Ryan Williams said a jury deliberated for 90 minutes on Nov. 13 before finding Javier Guzmán-Peña (dob 4/21/57) guilty of second-degree murder.

On April 19, Guzmán-Peña was driving a pick-up truck with a .15-percent blood alcohol level when he rear-ended a motorcycle at a stop sign near 90th Street East and Avenue K in Lancaster, according to testimony heard at trial. The driver of the motorcycle, Glenn Grimm, 69, was killed as a result of the crash, the prosecutor said.

According to the evidence presented at trial, the defendant sat in his truck following the crash and did not render any aid. A passing motorist pulled over, called 911, and started CPR on the victim following the instructions of the emergency operator, according to witness testimony.

Grimm was returning home to Antelope Acres after a charity ride in Arizona for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the prosecutor added.
