Jury selection in the trial of a man accused of killing a 20-year-oldVentura College student while driving under the influence of alcohol will start Wednesday.
Before scheduling jury selection, Ventura Superior Court Judge Bruce King on Monday denied a motion for a change of venue made by the lawyer for defendant Satnam Singh.
David Lehr said Singh couldn’t receive a fair trial in Ventura County because of negative media reports.
King said he thought Singh, of Ventura, could get a fair trial.
In making his ruling, King said, he considered several factors required by law, including gravity of the offense and size of the county.
Singh, 50, is accused of hitting and killing bicyclist Nick Haverland last year in Ventura. ….MORE
