According to Riverside County Sheriff Sgt.  Robert Grmusha, on December 2, 2021, at about 4:06 PM, deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, Moreno Valley Station, responded to the report of a major injury traffic collision on Alessandro Boulevard, west of Heacock Street, in the city of Moreno Valley. Deputies arrived on-scene to find there were two vehicles involved, a blue, 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander and a black, 2002 Acura MDX. The driver and passenger of the Mitsubishi were extricated from the passenger compartment by CalFire personnel; however, they were found to have suffered traumatic life-threatening injuries as a result of the traffic collision. Despite the life-saving measures attempted, both the driver and passenger were declared deceased at the scene.

The Coroner identified the victims as Alberto Agoncillo and Lydia Agoncillo, both 80.

The Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station Traffic Collision Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. The preliminary investigation revealed the Acura was traveling westbound on Alessandro Boulevard at a high rate of speed when it struck the passenger side of the Mitsubishi as it turned left into a business complex from eastbound Alessandro Boulevard.

During the investigation, the driver of the Acura was located near the scene and identified as Wendy Aguilar, 42-years-old, of Los Angeles. It was determined Aguilar received only minor injuries as a result of the collision, but her adult passenger had suffered moderate injuries and was transported to a local area hospital for medical treatment.

Following the investigation, Aguilar was arrested and later booked into custody at the Robert Presley Detention Center on two counts of Second-Degree Murder, Felony Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol, with an additional enhancement charged for causing great bodily injury to her passenger.

The collision investigation required the temporary closure of Alessandro Boulevard, between Heacock Street and Alessandro Plaza, in order to process the scene and collect additional evidence.

Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to call Deputy Patrick Lynch of the Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station at 951-486-6968 or the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department at 951-776-1099.
