LEWES, DEL. – How many times does a drunk driver get a free pass from the liberal numbskull judges of Delaware who can’t seem to throw them in the slammer?

The answer, my friend, is blowing in the wind, the answer is blowing in the wind”.

The Delaware State Police have arrested a Dover man after he was found to be under the influence for the 5th time.

The Delaware State Police report that this newest arrest of the career drunk driver occurred on Saturday, June 1, 2019, at approximately 7:34 p.m., when a trooper observed a white pickup truck on Beaver Dam Road swerve to the right crossing the solid white line several times.

The trooper activated the emergency equipment with the siren several times and the operator failed to stop. The vehicle that was traveling ahead of the white pickup pulled over on the shoulder and the operator of the pickup passed them. The driver continued to cross over the solid white line and at one point went into the grass before correcting itself back onto the roadway. The driver, identified as Richard Cornell, eventually pulled into a private driveway that did not belong to him. The driver had to be directed by the troopers to put the car in park.

Upon contact with the driver, Cornell appeared to be intoxicated and showed multiple signs of impairment. He was transported back to Troop 7 where a DUI investigation ensued.

A computer check revealed that Cornell had four previous DUI convictions, making this his fifth offense. Richard Cornell was arrested and charged 5th Offense DUI (Felony), Driving While Suspended, Disregard a Police Officer Signal and Failed to Remain within a Single Lane.  He was arraigned out of the Justice of the Peace Court and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institute on $8,101.00 secured bond.
