Chattooga County Ga. Sheriff Mark SchraderFrom The Summerville News

A Chattooga County Sheriff’s Deputy was arrested last night, according to Sheriff Mark Schrader.

“I’m still getting information but what I can tell you is that Donald Starkey was arrested last night after a one vehicle accident on Hwy 157 in Cloudland. My office called the Georgia State Patrol to investigate the crash. As of now he is charged with failure to maintain a single lane, failure to notify owner upon striking a fixed object and DUI. Donald’s employment with the Sheriff’s Office has been terminated. He was a very good deputy and shift supervisor. He was very dependable and a hard worker. I am surprised and disappointed by his actions. I am also very grateful that no one was injured in the crash and that no other vehicles were involved,” the sheriff said.
