Missouri: cop charged with stealing federal funds designated for DWI overtime; money gone, no DWI effort for 2.5 years!

A former Jennings police lieutenant faces charges of stealing federal money meant to pay officers overtime to conduct drunk driving checkpoints.
Shawn Lane, 36, of the 2100 block of Cherry Hills Lane in St. Charles, is expected to appear in St. Louis County Circuit Court on Wednesday to be formally read three charges of stealing over $500 by deceit. Lane was indicted last month.
Last fall, the city of Jennings asked St. Louis County police to take command of its police department in wake of the federal state investigation into the missing public money. At the time, Jennings Mayor Benjamin C. Sutphin said thousands of dollars in grant money was paid to several city officers in recent years for overtime work on sobriety checkpoints that was never performed.
