PASSING MOTORIST REPORTS ERRACTIC DRIVER ON RTE 400 RESULTS IN DWI ARREST

Buffalo, NY – Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reports Deputies Matthew Cipollitti and George Avery were dispatched to Elma following reports of a vehicle driving erratically on Route 400.

While searching Route 400 and surrounding surface streets, Deputy Cipollitti located a vehicle matching the description provided by the passing motorist. Deputy Cipollitti observed the vehicle driving well under the posted speed limit and without headlights. Deputy Cipollitti initiated a traffic stop on Jamison Road in the Town of Elma.

The driver appeared intoxicated, her speech was slurred, eyes were glassy and she had difficulty walking and keeping her balance. Monica Karsay, 53 of East Aurora, was transported to the Elma Substation where she submitted to a breath test. The results of the test indicated that she had a BAC of .17%.

Karsay was charged with DWI, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, inadequate lights, operating without an inspection certificate and drinking alcohol in a motor vehicle. She was released to a third party and faces a future court date in Elma Town Court.

Erie County Undersheriff Mark Wipperman reports the Erie County Sheriff’s Office made five separate DWI arrest of the weekend.
 
February 27; 1:45 a.m.; Elma – Deputy Richard O’Neil stopped a vehicle after observing the vehicle operating a speed higher than the posted limit.  Jeremy Vriesen, 25 of Lancaster, failed field sobriety tests and recorded a BAC of .09%.  Vriesen was charged with DWI, Operation of a Motor Vehicle with a BAC higher than .08% and speeding.  Vriesen was released to a third party on appearance tickets.
 
February 27; 3:00 a.m.; Boston – Deputy Kenneth Achtyl initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling 83 mph in a 65 mph zone.  Deputy Achtyl suspect the driver was intoxicated and had Kevin Deahn, 25 of Boston, conduct field sobriety test.  Deahn failed the sobriety tests and a breath test resulted in a BAC of .09%.  Deahn was released on appearance tickets.
 
February 28; 2:14 a.m.; Boston – Deputy Daniel Harris stopped a vehicle on Herman Hill Road after he observed the vehicle speeding and operating with high beams.  Deputy Harris charged Edward Sarcione III, 23 of Eden, with DWI, speeding, failure to use designated lane, failure to dim lights and failure to keep right.  Sarcione was released to a third party on appearance tickets.
 
February 28; 11:30 p.m.; Holland – Deputy Matthew Cipollitti arrested Chase Long, 29 of East Aurora, for DWI after the Deputy stopped him for speeding on Route 16.  Long was released to a third party and faces a Holland Town Court appearance on March 19.
 
March 1; 6 p.m.; Newstead – Jason Dieterle, 39 of Akron was arrested for DWI on Lewis Road.  Dieterle refused to submit to a breath test and has transported to the Erie County Holding Center and was held on $250 bail.
