Rollover DUI crash Wash Co So Ore.

04/29/2014 — Since midnight Sunday, Washington County Sheriff’s deputies have arrested eleven DUII driver’s including two from crashes.  One of the crashes was a head-on collision on SW Pacific Highway (Hwy. 99W) near King City.  Three people went to the hospital from that crash.

On Saturday, April 26, 2014, at 9:02 p.m., Sheriff’s deputies responded to a crash on SW Pacific Highway near SW Durham Road.  This area is in unincorporated Washington County near the City of King City.  When deputies arrived they found a serious head-on collision had resulted from a wrong-way driver in the north bound lanes of travel.

The wrong-way vehicle was driven by 48-year-old Brenda Gentry of Tigard.  Deputies determined that Mrs. Gentry was driving her Suzuki sedan south bound in the north bound lanes of SW Pacific Hwy. This portion of the highway has the north and south lanes physically divided by a large grassy area.  Witnesses stated Mrs. Gentry may have been driving with her headlights off as well.  She struck a 2008 BMW sedan driven by 22-year-old Yigene Qiu of Newberg, also in the car was 20-year-old Qiong Wu of Newberg.

Both vehicles sustained heavy damage and were towed from the scene.  All three people involved in the crash were transported to Oregon Health Sciences University.  Mrs. Gentry suffered serious injuries in the crash.  Mr. Qiu and Ms. Wu both suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the crash.

Deputies believe that Mrs. Gentry had consumed enough alcohol to impair her driving.  She was arrested for Assault in the Fourth Degree and DUII, because she was admitted to the hospital she was given a citation to appear in court at a later date.  Mr. Qiu was not cited.

In an unrelated crash, at about 3:15 this morning (April 27, 2014) deputies responded to SW Scholls Ferry Road and SW Teufel Avenue Just west of the City of Beaverton.  A Dodge pickup truck driven by 22-year-old Charles J. Huckins of Beaverton, failed to negotiate a curve properly and ran off the road.  The truck rolled at least one full time ejecting a dog that was riding in the bed.  Amazingly the dog was not hurt.

Deputies contacted Mr. Huckins and his passenger, 25-year-old Jon Kraxberger of Hillsboro, both were uninjured.  After their investigation deputies arrested Mr. Huckins for DUII.  He was later lodged at the Washington County Jail.

Since yesterday (4-26-14) at 12:00 a.m., Sheriff’s deputies have arrested eleven people for driving under the influence.   The Sheriff’s Office would like to remind people to stay alert and watch out for DUII drivers, and if you are going to drink alcohol or use any mind altering substances, including prescription pills and marijuana, do not drive a vehicle.
