From Index-Journal

ABBEVILLE COUNTY, S.C.   — 03/24/2017– A man facing DUI charges after a fatal Abbeville County wreck has already been convicted of killing two in an earlier crash, confirmed trooper Joe Hovis with the state Highway Patrol.

The earlier wreck happened Sept. 26, 2004, in southern Greenville County.

Donald Jerry “D.J.” Harris, then 22 and living in Greenwood, was driving an SUV that struck a car head-on in southern Greenville County, according to an account published two days later in the Index-Journal.

Donald Jerry D.J. Harris pleaded guilty on Oct. 1, 2007, to killing Juan Gregorio & Mauricco Jiminez-Lorenzo in Greenville SC in 2004

Juan Gustavo Gregorio and Mauricio Jimenez-Lorenzo, both 23 and of Greenwood, died at the scene. Harris and a passenger were transported to Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Harris pleaded guilty Oct. 1, 2007,  to two counts of felony DUI resulting in death and one count of felony DUI resulting in great bodily injury, according to the public index.

More than 12 years after that fatal crash, authorities say Harris was again driving under the influence when he crashed in Abbeville County.

Harris, 34, of Honea Path, was arrested Monday and charged with felony DUI resulting in death, felony DUI resulting in serious bodily injury, child endangerment and driving under suspension.

On March 11, Harris’ 1998 GMC SUV ran off the left side of Tornado Road south of Honea Path, overturning and striking a ditch, according to the state Highway Patrol.

Speed was likely a factor, said Abbeville County Coroner Ronnie Ashley.

His 7-year-old stepdaughter, Abigail Faith Harris, died in the crash while Donald Harris and three passengers, including a 4-year-old and a 20-month-old, were transported to Upstate hospitals.  MORE
