Washington State Patrol reports that one person is dead as a result of a driver suspected of driving under the influence crossing the center line and hitting other vehicles.
On Dec. 6, 2015 at 12:06 pm Trooper S. Gustafson reports that in Skagit County on Francis Road, two miles northeast of Mount Vernon, a five-car crash was caused by Michael J. Stephenson, 43, of Mount Vernon, Washington, who was jailed in the Skagit County Jail on charges of vehicular homicide and assault. Stephenson was operating a 2005 Chevy Silverado which crossed the center line of the highway.
Lucia Morales, 28, of Mount Vernon, was driving a 1998 Ford Ranger and was not injured.
Jill S. Elwick, 49, of Sedro Woolley, Wa., was the driver of a 1984 Mercedes hit by Stephenson and was killed.
Jeffrey A. Goudy, 52, of Mount Vernon, was injured in his 2002 Honda and taken to a hospital.
Steven W. Brown, 51, of Mount Vernon was not injured in his 2013 Ford Focus.
