PEKIN — An Illinois Central College student who was driving a sport-utility vehicle when it rolled over on an East Peoria road and killed a passenger was indicted on four charges by a Tazewell County grand jury.
Joseph W. Owens, 20, of 6646 W. Albion Ave. in Niles, is charged with aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol resulting in a death, driving under the influence, illegal transportation of alcohol and improper lane usage.
His next court appearance is Nov. 9. He’s free on $50,000 bond. The aggravated DUI charge could send him to prison for as long as seven years.
According to court records, Mario A. Reyes, 23, of Elgin, also an ICC student, was found trapped under Owens’ vehicle, and paramedics couldn’t revive him. An autopsy revealed he was crushed to death. ….MORE
