LOUISVILLE, Ky. (12/28/2016) — Louisville Metro Police say they have charged a Louisville man with murder after a fatal crash that took place earlier this month.

The incident occurred on the night of Friday, Dec. 16, at around 7:30 p.m., near the intersection of Maple Road and Cooper Chapel Road.

Police say 18-year-old Jose Gomez was driving a silver 2004 BMW northbound on Maple Road, when he blew through a stop sign at Cooper Chapel Road, smashing into another car that was driving westbound on Cooper Chapel Road.

Police say Gomez pushed that vehicle into another vehicle that was stopped at the intersection.

The driver of the second vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene according to an arrest report. That person has since been identified by the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office as 59-year-old Martin B. Showalter.   MORE
