UPDATE: Perez denied the charges against him during his arraignment in Springfield District Court and was ordered held in lieu of $25,000 cash bail
SPRINGFIELD — Police Officer David Starr, run down by an allegedly fleeing suspect driving drunk on Orange Street late Monday morning, is recuperating at home from his injuries.
“He has no broken bones, maybe a torn meniscus,” Sgt. John M. Delaney said of an injury to the 16-year veteran’s knee. “He is going to be out for a while, he is in a lot of pain.”
Starr, who recently returned from a tour in Afghanistan as a reservist in the U.S. Army, was injured, ironically enough, on the observance of Veterans Day, Delaney said.
Siloe Perez, 24, of 316 Orange St., stopped by police a short time later, is slated to be arraigned in District Court on Tuesday on drunken driving, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (pickup truck) and other charges.
“The guy was drinking a Bud Light,” Delaney said of Perez. “The (pickup) was full of Bud Lights.” ….MORE
