Report from Washington County Sheriff’s Office:

May 17, 2015, Washington County Sheriff’s Deputies attempted to stop a suspec ted DUII driver. She attempted to elude deputies and at one point struck a patrol car. She was arrested for DUII and related charges. 

On Sunday May 17, 2015 at 6:05 p.m., a citizen called 911 to report a suspected impaired driver.

Deputies located and stopped Donna Cowling, age 48 of Portland. When deputies made contact with her, she fled the scene in her 2004 Jeep Liberty and led deputies on a short pursuit.

Ms. Cowling eventually stopped when she pulled into a driveway near her home. As deputies approached the vehicle, she attempted to leave, but backed into a parked patrol car.

When she made contact with the patrol car, she accelerated in an apparent attempt to flee. Deputies were able to detain her and determine she was driving under the influence of alcohol. 

Cowling was arrested for DUII, Attempt to Elude Felony, Criminal Mischief II, Hit and Run and Reckless Endangering. She was lodged in the Washington County Jail.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office advises citizens not to drive after the consumption of alcohol or drugs.

If you must travel, the Sheriff’s Office encourages citizens to pre-arrange a designated driver. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office continues to promote safer roadways with strict enforcement of impaired drivers.
