The driver of a pickup truck that crashed Nov. 29, killing three friends from Northampton County, was charged Wednesday with homicide by vehicle in the wreck.
Thomas J. Howey Jr., 50, of Palmer Township, had a blood-alcohol content of at least 0.10 when he lost control of a 2014 Ford F-150 on a curve in Pike County and struck a tree, according to court records.
Timothy Gerhard, 58, of Plainfield Township; Barry Foose Jr., 46, of Easton; and Eric Dunbar, 38, of Roseto, were pronounced dead at the scene in Greene Township. Howey was hospitalized in critical condition at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, following the crash,unable to remember the incident, his daughter had said.
Wednesday afternoon, Howey was arraigned before District Judge Shannon Muir in Hawley, Pennsylvania.
Pennsylvania State Police at Blooming Grove charged Howey with three counts each of homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence and homicide by vehicle; two counts of drunken driving; single counts of careless driving and reckless driving; and traffic citations for leaving his lane and driving above a safe speed.
