2013-09-13 — On the morning of September 12, 2013, Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to several calls from motorists reporting a reckless driver traveling west on Interstate Highway 10 between Iowa and Lake Charles. Troopers located the vehicle and observed traffic violations including nearly hitting the vehicle ahead.
The driver, 39-year-old John A. Hernandez of Lake Charles, was stopped on I-10 in Lake Charles.
Upon contact with Troopers, Hernandez exhibited signs of impairment. Hernandez performed poorly on a standardized field sobriety test and was arrested and transported to Troop D for further testing.
Additional investigation revealed Hernandez consumed impairment-inducing narcotics prior to getting behind the wheel. A urine sample was obtained and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
Records indicate Hernandez was arrested for vehicular homicide in 2006. He was subsequently arrested for DWI twice …..MORE
