Maryland: boozing BMW driver Douglas Scott Berkshire was DUI and underwater after plunge into Patuxent River

Christmas Day booze cruise by Douglas Berkshire in BMW into Patuxent

HOLLYWOOD, MD. St. Mary’s Sheriff Tim Cameron reports that a Texas man with a pricey hot rod took a cold dip into the Patuxent River on Christmas Day.

There were no known baptismal ceremonies taking place on that holy day.

Deputies responded to the end of Clark’s Landing Road for the report of a vehicle in the river.

The investigation revealed, Douglas Scott Berkshire, 38, of Austin, Texas, drove a 2011 BMW 335I, 300-400 feet off of the roadway into the water. He was subsequently arrested and charged with Driving under the Influence.

Berkshire was charged on April 12, 2008 with furnishing alcohol to a minor and on July 30, 2008 he entered a guilty plea in District Court of St. Mary’s County, Md. He was fined $250. On that arrest citation he listed his address as on Cooney Neck Road in Mechanicsville.

The Hollywood Volunteer Fire Department posted this report on the incident on their website: At 0107 hours Station 7 and Station 79 were dispatched to 24550 Clarkes Landing Lane for the reported vehicle in the water. Rescue Squad 7 responded shortly after dispatch with 6 Volunteers.

Rescue Squad 7 arrived to find a single vehicle approximately 200 feet off the end of a Boat Ramp with all occupants out. The Ambulance obtained 2 signed refusals and the scene was turned over to the Sheriff’s Department. The next day Utility 7 and Raft 7 returned to the scene to assist the towing company with recovery of the vehicle.
