Marie Leigh Hovanec, 24, of 185 Robert Gray Ave., Tiverton, was arrested on April 26 at 11:58 p.m. and charged with DUI, Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) of .08 to .10.
An officer on patrol in the area of West Main Road and Melville Elementary School observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was recorded traveling at 56mph in a 45-mph zone before it was stopped in the area of West Main Road and Turkey Hill.
While speaking with the driver, the officer detected a strong odor of alcohol. After failing a field sobriety test, the driver, identified as Hovanec, was transported to the police station.
A chemical test measured a BAC of .098 on the first reading and a .104 on the second reading. The legal BAC limit in the state is 0.08.
Jeff Bucci charged with DUI after an alleged hit and run in Newport

Jeffrey Gene Bucci, 36, of 61 Almy Knoll Terrace, Portsmouth, was arrested on April 18 at 5:53 p.m.
On April 18, police were notified to look out for a silver Toyota Tacoma, which was involved in an alleged hit and run of a bicyclist in Newport.
On a traffic post, police observed a vehicle matching the description. The officer drove behind the vehicle on Sisson Pond Road and activated the cruiser’s emergency lights. The vehicle continued to drive, going through a stop sign at the top of Sisson Pond Road and driving north at approximately 15 mph. The vehicle then turned right on Almy Knoll Terrace and continued driving without stopping.
According to police reports, the vehicle turned into the driveway at 61 Almy Knoll Terrace as the garage door opened. After the vehicle stopped, the operator abruptly stepped out of the vehicle and began walking towards the open garage.
The driver then took a step towards the officer with a clenched fist and stated “don’t touch me,”

When the officer attempted to grab the man’s wrist, the man turned around and shoved the officer with both hands, according to police reports. After a brief struggle, the man, identified as Bucci, was placed into handcuffs.

Bucci was arrested and charged with the following: DUI, first offense, BAC unknown; refusal to submit to a chemical test; reckless driving; resisting legal or illegal arrest; and simple assault or battery.
