From Palm Beach Post:
Two hours after Beau Durling crashed into the back of two stopped cars, killing an 85-year-old man this year, his blood alcohol level was still nearly three times the legal drinking limit, according to Delray Beach Police.
Durling, 45, made his first appearance in court Monday morning on charges of DUI manslaughter and vehicular homicide, almost eight months to the day of the crash. Judge Caroline Shepherd ordered Durling be held on $50,000 bail and, if he is released, to be put on in-house arrest with an ankle monitor.
On Feb. 8, a woman driving on Atlantic Avenue stopped when she saw a friend walking nearby, police said. Behind her was a black BMW, followed by a silver Kia driven by Jack Rosen, followed by Durling’s Chevrolet Suburban SUV.
Police said Durling crashed his SUV into the back of Rosen’s car, redirecting it south in the roadway, and then smashed into the BMW in front of him. The Kia was damaged to the point that the trunk and back passenger seats were crushed into the driver and passenger seats, according to the report.
