Anthony Apollo Neeley DUI double homicide in St. Petersburg FL

A St. Petersburg man with a long criminal record of cocaine, grand theft and failing to appear to answer charges of driving without a license or registration killed a husband and wife on Thanksgiving Day and now is sitting in the Pinellas County jail on a million dollar bond.

FROM St. Petersburg Tribute ST. PETERSBURG, FL. 11/28/2014 —A St. Petersburg couple were killed on Thanksgiving after a drunk driver fleeing another afternoon crash struck the second vehicle while traveling at more than 100 mph.

Police say Douglas Simpson, 64, and his wife, 53-year-old Christina Simpson, were returning home after celebrating Thanksgiving with friends.

Anthony Apollo Neeley, 31, of Seminole faces two counts of driving under the influence-manslaughter and other charges, police said.

The fatal collision occurred at 5:35 p.m. Thursday at Central Avenue and 34th Street, police said, a major intersection in St. Petersburg.

Neeley was driving a 2003 Porsche sport utility vehicle and heading east in the outside lane of Central Avenue approaching 34th, investigators said.

Douglas Simpson was driving a 2009 Toyota Corolla westbound on Central and making a left turn onto 34th.

The Porsche struck the right side of the Toyota and rolled over several times before coming to a stop, police said. The couple were killed instantly, police said.

Neeley had been fleeing another crash at Central and 58th Street that occurred moments earlier, police said. Two officers who witnessed Neeley on Central estimated his speed to be in excess of 100 mph, police said. ….MORE
